From now on, we dare to go anywhere.. even to the most obscure and least popular places. Thank you GARMIN! We left PJ at 4.30pm (after all the dilly dally). It was a great day to travel because the sun was shining bright, clouds were floating in the clear blue sky and there were no signs of an upcoming downpour.

There are many exits to Teluk Intan. We took the exit to Bidor and it was another 30 minutes drive to our destination. Even with the roadsigns, we still trusted our handy GARMIN (by the way, this is not an advertorial by GARMIN). Notice the McDonald's directional signage? You won't get lost if you follow the sign. It probably is the most exciting fast food outlet and the most talk about in sleepy town Teluk Intan. If you are headed to Pulau Pangkor, follow the directions to Pelabuhan Lumut (Lumut Port).

By the time we got into Teluk Intan, it was close to 6.30pm. Exactly as expected, we took 2 hours to reach here. Seeing that we still had time to kill and our tummies were growling with hunger, a quick snack would satisfy our pangs. Teluk Intan is famous for a variety of local delights - the stuffed chee cheong fun (steamed rice rolls with fillings), steamed groundnuts and seafood. After having to travel 2 hours on the road, it is only obvious that we experience the local scene...

Yups, this is it. The one everyone talks about..

YES! It is truly a Teluk Intan specialty. The Filet-O-Fish was the best! Steam bun with a piece of deep-fried fish fillet with a dollop of tartar sauce and a slice of cheese. Mmmm.. we traveled all the way from PJ and to spoil our 8-course Chinese dinner, for this:

You must think we are so unadventurous. It reminds me of the time when I was studying in the States and I went home for the summer. After months of Denny's, IHOPs and Panda Express, I was in dire need of local hawker food. Guess where my mom and sis brought me for lunch the very next day of my arrival? McDonald's. How... nice.
Back to our travel story: With a snap of a finger, we were all dressed in our dinner attire.

When we go to the N Bandar Restaurant, we were greeted in Mandarin and Hokkien. Thankfully, Jamie must have prompted her brother to greet the Mandarin bananas (Us!) This is the first time I've gone to a wedding and not know what's on the menu. I could only guess some characters from my limited knowledge; when I was forced to pick up Mandarin at 5 and from mah jong.
Dreymer: Ok, there's gonna be a fish dish....and for #4, I only know the second character and that's 'sum'
Chip: Must be 'hoi sum' (sea cucumber)
Dreymer: Let's wait and see!
How right he was. SEE! We can survive.

Dinner was pretty good. It is not your typical 8-course meal because some of the dishes were served in a different style. The TI style! This is shark's fin broth with scallops served with spring chicken.
Sharing a table with a bunch of strangers is no fun. It is like putting yourself in the sahara with hungry cheetahs ready to pounce on its prey. Survival of the fittest best describes the scene at the dinner table. So you can imagine, the good stuffs (i.e. scallops) were all gone when the serving spoon got to us. Nah, let them fight. We'll show them the way of KLites - that we have proper dinner etiquette (and we will bitch about you in our blogs behind your backs!) Haha.

Finally, we got to speak to the happy couple. It's my first time meeting David and he's such a nice guy. Friendly and funny. Jamie's a lucky girl. As expected, Jamie's flamboyant choice of gowns.

Oh, and I can't stand the emcee dressed in red. He's so girly that it'll make you cringe in disgust. Nevermind that. He goes around with a feathered boa trying to dirty dance with the male guests, WITH A SERIOUS FACE and think he is so damn hot. EWWW!

Took a couple of snapshots of their photo album. I think most of the pics were taken in Pangkor Island.

Frothy face? Didn't they know getting rabies is not very romantic?

By the time they got to the 6th dish, it was past 10pm and we had to head back home to Kuala Lumpur. Again, GARMIN was such a big help. It started to pour a little when we entered the NKVE highway. We even stopped by the rest area for some yummy nasi lemak with sotong. All those driving just makes you hungry.

We would love to make another trip to Teluk Intan. It is a quaint li'l treasure that will be added into our list of towns to explore (next to Kuantan and Taiping). Maybe next time, I'll give Macca's double cheese burger a try |
