you shouldn't check your cholesterol level after this

one of those breakfast fixtures you'll never get bored of for generations -- roti bakar. some like their toast thick, some prefer paper thin but whatever the width of your roti, it's gotta be crunchy, full of kaya and butter. stir it in soft boiled eggs mixed with soy sauce and white pepper, you'll wish that kaya isn't one of the 'bad' food you shouldn't be eating everyday. old town kopitiam also serves other local bites that your grandma would agree on -- glutinous rice with kaya, toast with chicken curry, nasi lemak with rendang ayam (pretty good this one) and nissin noodles (the high class substitute of maggie mee).

you won't be crabby after having a claw

mmm... how can you say no to a big, fat crab claw on your plate? the flesh comes out so easily you don't have to struggle with the hardshell by hammer-ing away. dip the sweet, succulent flesh in the sweet-and-sour sauce that would make you go, "mmmmm..." and when you're done with the crab (legs and all), the best part is to sweep the sauce with a slice of roti bakar (toast bread). if you can't get enough of this cili-padi and garlic infused sauce, then you *must* mix it with your fried rice. crabs in sweet and sour sauce + fried rice = yummy! this is truly finger lickin' good! south pacific is located next to state cinema (also known as lotus restaurant). the service here is excellent too.

juicy!

i've never had such huge clams before. the larger ones are as big as a 50 cents coin and approximate 1 inch thick. cooked in a herbal soup, the clams are succulent and tasty. the broth made of herbs like dong gwai, yoke chuk, red dates, ginger and julliened black fungus thinghy is perfect on a cool night out. it's definitely worth trying.

your love-hate relationship with marmite

you and marmite; it's a love-hate relationship. you either love or hate this spread. if you hate it, let me try to convince you that this dish could change your mind about this brown, gluey extract. located at the corner of taman tun (it's in the same row as muhibbah seafood restaurant, maybank). ask me again for the address alright? anyways, there's this chinese restaurant called 'little sparrow'. they serve marmite pork ribs or chicken. it's super delicious. if you've never liked marmite ever, this dish won't repulse you because it sure doesn't taste at all like marmite. it goes extremely well with plain white rice. i know i didn't really do a great job to change your mind on marmite but sometimes it's just easier to taste it rather than to use words to describe the yumminess. the other dishes aren't too bad as well. try the sweet and sour pork, lemon chicken or claypot to fu. they do serve a specialty tofu which is called little sparrow tau foo. i'm not sure they serve it with diced or whole sparrow. eeks :P
